THIS is the life!!!

I grew up going to a lake house owned by my Dad and his siblings. Every weekend of every summer we were there. Now that I'm an adult and have kids of my own I realize just how much those times with family have formed me. It used to take us about 2 hours to get there....before there were car dvd players or personal MP3 players. It's more like 3 hours from where I live now. I tried to explain to my kids on the ride up for 4th of July weekend that the long ride was the whole reason that Grandma Way taught Uncle Danny and I so many songs and nursery rhymes. The house has also gained a microwave and cable tv since my childhood. Again, I think my children are spoiled. I do have to say, though, that they hardly watched any tv the entire time.
These two may have missed the point.
Countless times this weekend I turned to my Mom or my brother or some other family member and commented that watching Nicholas and Megan together was like a 25 year flashback of Dan and I doing the exact same things!
When my family descends upon the house the normally quiet and serene adult atmosphere is violently transformed into a maelstrom of yelling and squealing and barking! Considering we usually only make it up there about 2 weekends a summer, I think the more mature inhabitants can handle it! For the 4th of July it was my Grandma, my Aunt Ellie, my parents, my brother and my crew, including the dog! Space was tight, but the weather was picture-perfect and we all love each other! What a perfect mini-vacation!
