Run for your life!

To preface: this entire adventure was ill advised. I knew it from the before it even started. I was right. Mom is always right. Why am I the only one that seems to know that?
Megan got on a kick this morning to walk to "duck pond lake" as she calls it. It's a pond in a condo complex not far from us that is home to two families of Canada geese. I tried to explain (passionately, I might add) that it was already 85 degrees and about 99% humidity at 9:30 in the morning. Megan would hear nothing of it. She wanted to ride her bike to duck pond lake. I caved, but I insisted she was NOT riding her bike because last time I ended up pushing her and the bike the entire way. On a hot morning like this, I was sure I would die in the middle of the road if I had to push her. Nick was excited for the adventure, so we took off with them on their scooters (slightly better than bikes).

We got to duck pond lake and the beasts eyed us immediately. They took off for us like some sort of well crafted military operation! They didn't stop! The kids paused on the grass for (literally) four seconds, then turned tail and ran...screaming! Then we walked/scootered home. This is basically what happens every time we visit duck pond lake. I don't understand the allure.

As I carried Megan's scooter the last few yards to our house, she announced, "I do NOT want to go to duck pond lake for the rest of the summer!" She was hot and sweaty. I'm sure next time the thermometer tops 100 she'll inevitably want to go back. That's just my luck! We decided together to not go to an outdoor theater production for children in the park today. Free is fun, but not in this oppressive humidity! I'm still more of a warm weather girl than a cold weather girl, but this was a bit silly.
