Christmas Musical 2008

Every year our church does a Christmas extravaganza. It's a lot of fun. Actually, I remember when I was a kid we'd also do a huge Easter production. I remember because I was in them. I guess that got to be a bit much, so we've focused on Christmas.

Both kids love being in them. Nick has run the cycle of angel, shepherd and this year "King's court boy." He was some little page sort of creature that carried a trumpet, heralding the entrance of the three wise men. Megan was (and will always be) and angel. I somehow got conscripted to co-direct the smallest crew - bell choir/child singers/angels. Twenty-five little cherubs all 4-years-old to 3rd grade. Once one hits 4th grade one graduates to a satin costume and more complicated choreography (this is the role Megan is already eyeing). Twenty-five children and a complete wardrobe change halfway through the musical. Thankfully, there were a host of parent volunteers to whip Christmas dresses off and get angel costumes on. Dress rehearsal and 3 performances later, we managed to never miss a cue...and only once was a costume on backwards! I took the 2 boys of the group to get them changed in privacy. Nick's costume resembled a genie, so in true boy fashion, he and Noah were constantly debating who was more powerful - a genie or an angel.

It was fun, but maybe next year I'll sign up to be *in* the production to avoid the blood, sweat and tears of the role of Chief Angel Wrangler! Those King's court wives looked pretty swanky!
