A little more Thanksgiving...

Once upon a time, many years ago, the Hamlin family realized they brought far too many desserts to Thanksgiving every year. In an effort to consume the leftover desserts, they had another party on Sunday afternoon. They ate turkey sandwiches and were supposed to finish off the desserts. Over the years the celebration has snowballed. People started bringing new desserts to the dessert party. Yma started buying and cooking a second turkey for the leftover party. The family grew, adding girlfriends who became spouses who bore children. And so became the famous Hamlin/Patterson/Scalera after-Thanksgiving Thanksgiving.

Gugs has been making "turkey dinner" sandwiches with turkey, stuffing & cranberry sauce since way before D'Angelo's thought of it. Fifteen years ago, these sandwiches may be what sold me on this family! Honestly, I'm not a food-touching, globs of mayo, Wonder bread girl, but it all comes together beautifully in Gugs' sandwiches.
Cousins laugh and love. Some years there are movies, some years there are games, several people nap...sometimes on the floor. Every year we look forward to this afternoon together!

I didn't know about this Thanksgiving Redux event. Hilarious! And what fun! I smiled as I read the entire thing ---- you write with such understated panache. :) Love it!

That is the most beautiful sandwich I have ever seen. I wish I had one right now. After people view this blog, there may be more people arriving next year
