Wednesday was prep day for us. We have several family events over this weekend and I am determined to be organized enough to not forget anything major! So...on Wednesday the kids and I ran errands, cooked, got things sorted into piles for each event, made lists, etc. Then we treated ourselves to movie night and butter popcorn rather than the "butter light" stuff I usually serve. We are thankful for Comcast On Demand free and cheap movies!
Thanksgiving day we packed up food, toys and changes of clothes and drove to Uncle Danny's new house in Atkinson. The 45 minute drive was made pleasant by the Christmas musical stylings of the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato. If you don't know who they are, you're clearly not cool.We got there just as the ambulance was pulling in the driveway. No lie! Hee hee! My Dad is an EMT and for the past several years he has worked a Thursday shift. EMT's know no holidays. People get food poisoning, cut themselves with the carving knife, have heart attacks, start domestic disputes...you name it on Thanksgiving. For the same past several years my Mom has made sure she has hosted Thanksgiving or it has stayed within Atkinson so Dad and his paramedic partner would have a family meal to attend. Last year we actually took the show on the road and set up the whole affair at the fire house! Anyway, this year Dan's new house got the honors. Of course it was sort of a pot luck deal and I think my Mom and Dad went over the day before to kinda set things up. There were centerpieces...you can't tell me my brother did that. All this made for another Thanksgiving filled with family, friends and co-workers. Perfect.
Then we busted out Dave's defrosted birthday cake (see previous post about Dave missing his own birthday party) and some candles. Another event checked off the list.
After we wrapped things up in Atkinson (Dad and Patty didn't even got to eat their whole meal without a call!) we drove the shot distance to Dave's Dad's house in Methuen, MA. Deborah's (adult) kids were still there, so we got to visit with them - that's always a treat. After they left we relaxed with more desserts, tea and games. We tried not to stay too late because I knew I had to be up at 3:45am to work Black Friday in retail. Yowza! Now that it's Friday night I can tell you it was insane and I'm tired!
Now I'm preping for A White Christmas tomorrow in Alton Bay, NH. How's that for a preview of coming attractions?
