A peek at our day...

Sometimes I wonder what "a day in the life" would be like in someone else's life. Sometimes I even look at complete strangers and wonder what it's like to be them. Is that strange? Well, here's a peek into our life today. It was crazy in a very typical way. Actually, the second half of the day slowed down from our usual pace and we kind of almost loafed around a bit.

8:00am and they're already in the pool that was inflated in my living room last night. They had started asking to go in at 6:30am by loudly whispering into my sleeping ear, "PLEASE can we go in the pool now????" Are you kidding me? Is this a sane way to start one's morning?

By 8:30am I had dragged out cousin Joey's picnic table (which was still in our garage from last summer) and served breakfast pool-side. Eggo waffles, bananas and hard boiled eggs.

From 9:30 - 11:00am or so we went to the church to help paint props for VBS later this summer. The kids had fun and only tracked purple paint over part of the church! We eventually moved them to the grass outside.

Nicholas tested for his red belt in Tae Kwon Do from noon to about 3:00pm. He had practiced very hard and did extremely well! As part of his testing he broke a board with a foot technique...he ended up using an ax kick. We won't find out officially until midweek, but I don't see why he wouldn't have passed. I'm SO proud of him!

They spent the rest of the afternoon splashing in the pool, digging a big mud hole in a part of the yard I hadn't planted flowers in and Nick declared he was going to "work on his tan." I grilled burgers and dogs for supper and we ate outside. Somehow I think they've both had two or three quasi-baths today. They are now supposed to be snuggled in to have a "camp out" and watch a Disney movie in the family room for bed. Sometimes sleepovers work out fine and sometimes they don't between the two of them. Hopefully it will be peaceful tonight because we have church in the morning. I'm sitting at the computer and watching women's gymnastics Olympic trials. Dave should be arriving home sometime around 2:00am.

Mmmmm! Now that's a thrilling life. I bet all the strangers looking at me at the mall and wondering what my life is like would be jealous if they really knew! As a side note, I would be interested in attaching a pedometer to myself to see how many steps I actually in a day. I think I'd be shocked. Then again, maybe I don't want to know. I'm tired enough as it is without knowing! It's taken me over 45 minutes of up and down just to write this entry.

All in all, I count the day as a success. We clocked more time outside than in front of one screen or another. I managed to avoid fast food completely today and even snuck some whole grains into them. No major injuries. Megan spent more time out of "time out" than in it. I actually sat down to eat one of my meals. We laughed. We cheered each other on. We prayed for and with each other more than once.
