Runaway

This weekend I ran away from home. I went on a weekend retreat with a bunch of ladies from our church. We had a great time!! Of course, I brought my camera and then didn't take a single picture. I looked on-line for some pictures of the "Inn at Windsor" on the property of our district's camp but I couldn't find any good ones. I grew up going to children's and teen camps there and felt VERY spoiled by the heat, comfy bed and hot water the Inn provided! I felt like a real grown up!

It rained, but that was fine. It was so great to get to know all those ladies! We ranged in age from about 24 to somewhere in the 70's. We laughed, we cried...you know the drill! Vanessa Fringer and I were roomies and stayed up past 2am on Friday (er...Saturday) laughing about our college days. She was a year behind me at ENC and had fresh stories I'd never heard. Good times! Saturday afternoon a bunch of gals piled into cars and headed to a mall in Concord...the closest thing to civilization up there. Other women explored the quaint shops of Hillsboro, NH and two even headed to a nearby mountain to hike in the rain. Yeah...I went with the mall crowd! Had my Mom not been zip-lining into a volcano in Hawaii, she would have been there and I bet she would have chosen the yarn-shop crew. I hope next year we can go together. To retreat, I mean. I WISH I meant Hawaii!

I'm sure you're all wondering how things went on the home front. I'm not the type to leave labeled casserole dishes in the fridge. I told Dave that if that was what he was expecting he married the wrong gal! I wasn't going to set him up for failure, so I did go to the grocery store and make sure there were supplies in the house. They were too busy to eat at home, though. There was a parent meeting at karate Saturday morning, then they went to Friendley's as a treat for lunch. Saturday evening there was a movie night at karate (a favorite activity for the kids) which included pizza for supper and they went out with the grandparents and great-grandparents for Sunday lunch like we always do. I was getting play-by-play text messages all weekend. Kids in bed early, clothes laid out for the next morning, breakfast served, etc. My favorite was Sunday morning when Dave was clearly using his Blackberry in church to text me one word, all caps......"EARLY". He's fresh. We're never on time for church. He was just out to prove a point. His dad-friends told him he made a big mistake. Now the wife knows he's capable of all these feats!!!!

So, all in all a great weekend. This I know for sure: I love God, I love my girlfriends and I love my family even more when I get an occasional break!
