Mother of the Year

Put the stamp on my nomination and mail it immediately!

To preface: Can we all agree that Nicholas has well documented anxiety about changes and new situations? Yes.

Day 1 of 2nd grade went well. That night, however, Nicholas was awake from 3:30 - 6:30am. We let him sleep until 8:00 and then scooted him off to the bus at 8:30. He complained that he had a headache, etc. but his sleep was all messed up. We gave him some Tylenol and sent him off. We didn't want to set a precedent with him or his teacher. He was a walker that afternoon because usually he has karate on Wednesdays. As I walked him from the school to our friend's house (one block) he went on and on dramatically about how weak he was and how his forehead was warm, etc. I went with the "buck up, camper" approach. We went home instead of to karate. I took his temp and it was 102.9!!!! Oops! I gave him more Tylenol and he fell asleep on the couch by 4:30pm! He woke up a bit from 7:30 - 9:30, but he just had something to drink and got more medicine. This morning the temp was lower, but still there. No Day 3 of 2nd grade for Nick!

He's feeling better now and the temp has stayed down since lunch time. He has a 4 day weekend, so he won't be back at school until Tuesday.

How do you know when it's drama and when it's illness? Ugh. I give up! Also, is there such thing as Ambien Jr. for those stressful periods in his life when he can't sleep?

Just wanted you to know that I've been reading your blogs and really enjoy them! They make me laugh! Ugh - it is so hard to differentiate between the drama and really something wrong, even at almost 3. You seem like such a great mom!!

I always feel horrible when I can't tell the difference b/w fiction and reality with kids. I sent Haleah to her room for being naughty and she told me she had to pee. I ignored it b/c I thought she was just trying to get out of trouble. Well, she peed, standing up, all over her mattress in her church clothes. Ugh. Live and learn. You are doing a great job. Poor Nick :)
