February Break Adventures

The kids had February break from school a week ago. We didn't have a big vacation planed or anything, but we still managed to have lots of fun!

The first weekend of break we went to a musical in Boston at the Colonial Theatre. It was a musical based on one of the kids' favorite book series, The Magic Tree House. Our seats were at the tip top of the balcony and that old theatre is STEEP. We all had so much fun going into the city and having fun as a family. Dave bought the kids the soundtrack CD on the way out and Megan has been singing the songs ever since.
I had a pretty bad cold the beginning part of the week, so we didn't over do things. We went to lunch with some friends and stayed pretty chill.

On Thursday the kids and I used the family membership Aunt Ellie gave us to the Museum of Science. My folks were both not working that day, so they came with us. We saw the temporary exhibit on frogs, the lightning show and even the IMAX theater. The kids actually loved the movie about the Amazon and didn't even get motion sick! The funniest part was Nicholas and his notebook. He insisted on bringing a notebook and taking notes on everything. When we got back home he wrote up a little report to bring back to Mrs. Martinez, his teacher.
The last weekend of break was all about karate. Nicholas had a belt graduation where he achieved his red/black 1 ranking. He now just has red/black 2 and black belt candidate before testing for his black belt. After the ceremony, one of the black belts from his school organized and ran a tournament for the kids. It was a great opportunity for the kids to gain confidence and experience. Nicholas came in 3rd in his division for weapons forms and 1st in his division for BOARD BREAKING!!!
The weekend was so busy that it was almost nice that the kids had a snow day Monday, extending their break. Almost but not really. School vacation is NOT Mom vacation!
