This week was school vacation week around here. Unlike last week, when it was mid-70's and sunny, this week was more in t
he 50's and rainy...not fun at all. Wednesday was bright and sunny, though not too warm. We seized the opportunity, though, to head to the zoo with one of my co-workers and her kids. Her daughter Abbey and Nick are in the same first grade class...but that's a romantic comedy of its own. We were watching our little buddy, Caleb Kleppinger, for the day while his other family members had their own adventures. They have their own blog. If you want details you can look there. Let's just say that if Mystery Diagnosis had a camera crew in Boston that day, surely 5-year-old Hannah would be a super star by now!

Back to the zoo. We had a GREAT day! The kids all got along great and there were no major mishaps - always a sign of a good day. Caleb had the quote of the day: Upon seeing an emu, he very seriously announces, "Oh! Das a BIIIIIG quack-quack!" The most memorable part of the day was lunch. We went on the cheap and packed a picnic. If you ever happen to visit Franklin Park Zoo in Boston (which I do recommend), BEWARE of a very bold Canada goose. The thing will stop at nothing to steal food! It was at the picnic area near the lion. Keep your eyes peeled for this beast!
There was much running and laughing and disbursement of random animal knowledge (mainly by Nick and myself) until we all pretty much collapsed back into the minivan! The 3 boys (7, 4 & 2) all fell asleep on the way home. The 2 girls (nearly 7 and 4) chit-chatted and giggled all the way home. The 2 moms (whatever) were glad we didn't hit too much traffic!
One side note to the trip. In true Heather fashion, I have strep. Welcome to spring! I didn't KNOW I had strep Wednesday. I had the slightest of sniffles in the back of my throat. I took a Claritin and went about my fun day. Come 4am when I was sweating with fever and couldn't swallow, I knew I was in trouble. By 11am Thursday I was on penicillin. Sweet. My deepest apologies to my friends and all the strangers I exposed!
