From Right Wing Conservative to Obama Supporter....Yes, it's True!

Ok, I've been asked time and time again how a lifelong right-wing (Alex Keaton-like), Bush-campaigning, Republican can now be supporting Barack Obama. I thought I'd provide a little bit of insight...

Over the past several years, I've become convinced that there are more issues in our world that we have to address than just the typical issues that right wing evangelicals have focused on. While those are still important, issues like poverty, social justice, mass genocide, the worldwide HIV/AIDS epidemic, world hunger, and the environment; are issues that I've come to realize should also be on the hearts of those that care about feeding the hungry and loving their neighbor. The candidates that I've supported in the past have tried to convince me that their trickle-down economics would solve that problem; but it hasn't. Throwing money at they problem isn't the answer; true compassion is.

Do I believe that Barack Obama, with his liberal beliefs and inexperience is a risk? Absolutely! But I think that it's a risk worth taking - not only for our country, but also for the world. Let's talk about it...

Dave, I don't think the governments of this world will ever really care about the poor. How much do our politicians make? Have they ever taken a pay cut? The answer to these social problems are in the Church. How much do pastors make? Do they make financial sacrifices? Who really cares about the poor? It should be the Church. Don't let Obama or McCain fool you. They are in it for the fame, glory, power and money.

I could debate, and I see and agree with your observations, though I disagree with your candidate of choice. Obama's brother is still living in a 8x8 hut and he's never cared enough to rescue him or send him money. I like Obama's charisma, but I don't believe he is our answer either. Unfortunately, our choices aren't that great this time around. I will have to (myself) go with the one who will take less of the money that my poor husband works so hard to supply for our family of 5. Still friends??? :)
